How to set up email on iPad

  • Step 1
  1. On the iPad, go to the Home screen and open Settings.
  2. Open Mail, Contacts, Calendars.
  3. Open Add Account then select Other.
  4. Select ‘Add mail account’.
  • Step 2
  1. In the New Account screen, enter the following information:
  2. Name: Your full name.
  3. Address: Your full email address.
  4. Password: Your password.
  5. Description: You may change this description to whatever you prefer; for example, “Work Email”
  6. Select next.
  • Step 3
  1. In this screen, make sure that the server type selected at the top is IMAP, rather than POP, and that the name and address are listed properly.
  • Step 4

Under Incoming Mail Server, please enter the following information:

  1. Host Name: Enter mail.yourdomain.com, replacing “yourdomain.com” with your domain.
  2. User Name: Your full email address (username@domain.com).
  3. Password: Your password.

Under Outgoing Mail Server, enter:

  1. Host Name: Enter mail.yourdomain.com
  2. User Name: Your full email address (username@domain.com).
  3. Password: Your password.

NOTE:  The User Name and  Password fields in Outgoing Mail Server are Required even though it says “Optional” on the iPad.

When you click Next, the iPad will attempt to connect to the server, and will fail with an error message: “Cannot connect using SSL. Do you want to try setting up the account without SSL?”

Click Yes.

  • Select the Next button at the the top of the screen.
  • With the Mail switch turned ON, press the Save button at the top of the screen.
  • You may also enable Notes. Doing so will sync your iPads notes with the notes folder in your email account.
If you are having trouble sending email please continue on with the following steps.
Select your newly-created email account, tap on Account, scroll to the bottom of the screen, and then tap Advanced. Make sure your settings match those below. To edit a setting, tap it and select an alternate setting or enter the appropriate information.
  • Incoming mail server:
  1. Use SSL: OFF
  2. Authentication: Password
  3. Server Port: 110
On the top-left, tap Account to go back to the previous screen, and then tap SMTP under “Outgoing Mail Server”.
Tap on mail.yourdomain.com under “Primary Server”.

Make sure that your settings match the settings below. You will likely need to modify the Server Port.

  • Outgoing Mail Server:
  1. Host Name: mail.yourdomain.com
  2. User Name: username@domain.com
  3. Password: Your password.
  4. Use SSL: OFF
  5. Authentication: Password
  6. Server Port: 25 (or 587 if you are unable to send emails with port 25).
